Charkarkas- Seven or Eight
There has been a lot been debate from several years related to this topic as some school of thought uses seven char karkas in Jaimini sutram and some uses eight char karka including Rahu as the 8th char karka.
As Maharishi parashar himself wrote in BPHS “Some people will use seven char karakas while some will use Eight.” but he never mentioned whom should use seven char karakas and whom should use eight Char karakas.
If you read BPHS, Rahu is considered karka for pitris and ancestors and this is the eight char karaka which is a pitri karaka and people who have ancestors will use the eight char karakas while the people who do not know about their ancestors and lineage will use the seven char karakas.
As the 8th char karaka where the debate is on is on Pitri karaka only and I am very sure 99% people on earth will be sure of Pitri karaka and this is why 8 char karaka scheme to be used where Rahu can become any of the temporary significator or karaka in the chart.
